The quality of a LCD display depends on its panel, because the quality of the panel directly affects the viewing effect of the picture. LCD panels can largely determine very important parameters such as the brightness, contrast, color, and visual angle of the liquid crystal display. And the LCD TV panel accounts for more than half of the cost of the whole machine, which is the main factor affecting the cost of LCD TV. So when choosing a LCD display, first choose its panel. From the perspective of the current LCD panel market, there are three main types of mainstream positions: TN, VA, and IPS. The liquid crystal materials and panel structures they adopt are different, and they have their own advantages and disadvantages.
TN LCD : Twisted Nematic panels, the most prominent feature of which is that the price is low and it is generally used in low -end LCD display. The 19 -inch wide -screen LCD display on the market now uses TN panels. In addition, the TN panel is not only cheap, but also responds faster, which is one of the reasons why TN panels are favored by manufacturers. However, this panel also has defects such as insufficient color and low visibility angle. First of all, the TN panel can only show 16.2M color. Some improved TN panels with 8bit drivers can also display 16.7M color, but in terms of effect, it is still impossible to compare with a panel that can display 16.7M colors. In addition, the maximum viewing angle of the previous technology was only 90 degrees. Later, through the addition of a layer of compensation film on the panel, the visual angle was increased to about 160 degrees. The TN+Film panel is also the mainstream of the LCD display market.
VA LCD : Mostly applied to high -end LCD display with wide perspectives and widely used. The 8bit panel can provide 16.7Mcolor, with a wide range of viewing angles and high contrast (TN panel contrast is below 1000: 1). The current VA LCD on the market are divided into MVA and PVA. MVA (Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment) is the earliest wide-angle LCD panel technology. PVA -class panels can reach 178 ° at a close level of view, and at the gray level response time can reach less than 8ms. Chimei, AUO and other manufacturers use MVA technology when producing mid -to -high -end LCD panels. At present, there are many mid -to -high -end liquid crystals on the market. For example, the 20 -inch and 22 -inch screens of many brands use MVA LCD panels.
The biggest feature of the IPS (In-Plane Switch) panel is that its poles are on the same surface, not like the electrodes of other LCD mode on the upper and lower sides, three-dimensional arrangement. Because the electrode is on the same plane, no matter what state, the LCD molecule is always parallel to the screen, which will reduce the opening rate and reduce the light transmission rate. Therefore, IPS applications will require more backlight on LCD TV. S-IPS panel belongs to the improved type of IPS.The advantages of IPS panels are high visual angle, fast response speed, accurate color restoration and cheap. However, the disadvantage is that the problem of light leakage is relatively serious, and the purity of black is not enough. It is slightly worse than the PVA. Therefore, it is necessary to rely on the compensation of optical membranes to achieve better black. IPS panels are mainly produced by LG-Philips. Compared with other types of panels, the screen of the IPS panel is relatively hard. It is not easy to deform water pattern, so it is called a hard screen. If you look closely at a hard screen and see the fish -like pixel towards the left, then you can be sure that it is an IPS panel.
