VGA interface (Video Graphics Array) and SVGA interface (Super Video Graphics Array) are both video signal transmission
interfaces, mainly used for connecting computers and displays. The main difference between them lies in resolution and display
quality:
1. Resolution:
VGA: The standard resolution for VGA interfaces is usually 640x480 pixels, also known as VGA resolution. The VGA interface can
also support higher resolutions, such as 800x600 (SVGA) or 1024x768 (XGA), but this depends on the capabilities of the monitor
and graphics card.
SVGA: The standard resolution of the SVGA interface is 800x600 pixels, providing higher resolution and clearer images than VGA.
2. Color depth:
VGA interfaces typically support 16 or 256 colors, while SVGA interfaces can support higher color depths, such as HiColor
(65536 colors) or TrueColor (16.77 million colors).
3. Refresh rate:
Due to its higher resolution, the SVGA interface may support higher refresh rates, which can reduce screen flicker and
provide smoother images.
4. Compatibility:
VGA is an early technology, and almost all monitors and graphics cards support the VGA interface.
SVGA is an extension of VGA that provides higher resolution and color depth, but not all devices support SVGA.
5. Interface shape:
The VGA and SVGA interfaces have the same physical shape, both being 15 pin D-sub connectors. However,
not all 15 pin VGA interfaces can support SVGA resolution and color depth.
6. Application scenarios:
Due to its popularity and compatibility, VGA interface is commonly used in situations that require basic display functions.
The SVGA interface is suitable for occasions that require clearer images, such as office, education, and some games,
as it provides higher resolution.
With the development of technology, VGA and SVGA interfaces are gradually being replaced by higher resolution and
digital interfaces such as DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort, but they are still used in some specific application scenarios.
