Advantages, disadvantages, and types of RTP resistive touch screens.

Advantages of resistive touch screen:

The precision of resistive touch screens is high, reaching the level of pixel points, and the maximum resolution applicable can reach 4096x4096.

The screen is not affected by dust, water vapor, and oil stains, and can be used in environments with lower or higher temperatures.

Resistive touch screens use pressure sensing and can be touched by any object, even with gloves, and can be used for handwriting recognition.

Resistive touch screens are relatively mature in technology and cost-effective.

Disadvantages of resistive touch screens:

Resistive touch screens typically only allow for single point touch. If designed as multi touch, when two points are simultaneously pressed, the pressure on the screen becomes unbalanced, resulting in touch errors, making the implementation of multi touch difficult.

Resistive touch screens are more prone to damage to the touch function and appearance of the touch panel due to scratches and other factors.

The types of RTP resistive touch screens are mainly divided into four wire resistive touch modules, five wire resistive touch modules, and G+G resistive touch modules.

4-wire resistive touch screen (RTP): Relatively speaking, it has a cost advantage. It has an indium tin oxide (ITO) resistive coating on the inside of its touch layer to form the X-axis and Y-axis. Once pressure is generated, there will be a change in voltage, and the coordinates of the X and Y axes will be calculated using a voltage divider.

One disadvantage of a four wire resistive touch screen is that certain factors can cause a decrease in the linearity and accuracy of the axis, including external environmental conditions and high-frequency operations. Occasional recalibration may be necessary to maintain the accuracy level of touch points. In addition, due to the thin film material of the top layer, scratches and nail marks on the appearance will be more noticeable after multiple uses.

Four wire resistive touch screen and five wire resistive touch screen

Five wire resistive touch screen (5-wire RTP): The structure and design concept are similar to four wire RTP. The five wire resistive touch screen only uses the bottom layer to create X and Y axis coordinates, which we call the resistive layer. The top layer, on the other hand, serves as a pure conductive layer and is usually coated with nickel gold material, which can better extend its lifespan. Due to the top layer not being used for one of the axes, this results in excellent stability, durability, sensitivity, and reliability.

The several benefits of a five wire resistive touch screen are that it can maintain a constant level of accuracy even if the top layer is damaged, and the touch response and accuracy are not affected by harsh environmental conditions. But it is obvious that its cost is higher and the difficulty of production is also higher.

G+G resistive touch module: RTP resistive touch screen is used in some harsh environments because corrosive solvents and liquids can damage the ITO film material itself, causing the touch of the screen to fail. The G+G structure resistive touch screen RTP perfectly solves such application scenarios. Of course, its manufacturing process is more complex.
